Q&A with Young Ambassador, Ashley
Bridgewater
What inspired you to take part in Young
Ambassadors?
After finishing team I felt that I had
achieved such a lot and wanted to spread the word about The
Prince’s Trust so more people could get help achieving more in
their lives.
What did you enjoy
about being a Young Ambassador?
The sense of being part of a very good
team and the events - the events have been amazing, I always felt
valued and important each time I spoke.
Has it helped you improve your job
prospects and if so, how?
It has given me bucket loads of
confidence, a great looking CV with all my new skills and
experiences and motivation to go on to achieve everything I
want to in my future career - it has made me more focused on my
dreams.
How has Young
Ambassadors helped you develop personally and in ways that
might help you at work?
I have been brought out of my shell even
more than when on team. Personally it has given me a new group of
friends, a great support network and some amazing experiences.
What sort of things did you get
up as a Young Ambassador?
I have spoken at fundraisers with the
Beechcroft Million Makers Team and as a guest of the Earl of
Derby at his Knowsley Hall Estate. I was also involved in an
interview panel to select and question a new member of staff. I
have made a few trips to different conferences in London and
recently spoke at the EMR recruitment conference to inspire their
staff - plus much more.
Was the project everything you
expected?
Much more than I expected. When I have
been offered any opportunity, I have taken it with both hands and
just given everything a go - I can safely say it has been
brilliant.
What impact do you think this
project has had on your local community?
Directly I wouldn't have said it
has much impact but indirectly on the North West as an area I
would say it is immense. Of all the events I have been to, each
organiser has commented that people are so much more generous when
a Young Ambassador is present than when not. If this leads to
another few Get into or Get Started programmes being organised for
more young people, then I feel my job is done.
Young Ambassador Celebration Day 2009
The 2009 Young Ambassador Celebration Day was held in London on
the 11th December. The day provided a fantastic opportunity to
celebrate the achievements of Young Ambassadors last year and to
recognise the excellent work undertaken by staff across The Trust
in recruiting, developing and supporting our Young Ambassadors.
Guests Melvin and Charlie from the KISS FM Breakfast Show, actor
Femi Oyeniran from the movie Kidulthood and the Senior
National Partner from Berrymans Lace Mawer all came to show their
support. Over 100 Young Ambassadors attended the action packed day
which included performances from street magicians, circus
entertainers, lunch at the Rainforest Cafe and a trip to the scary
London attraction Pasaje Del Terror.
I found today to be really inspirational and
heart-warming to be around such great people with so much passion.
It gave a different touch to being in London because we were at
such an exclusive venue and Young Ambassadors came from all over
the UK to represent. - Alika Jeffs, Young Ambassador
