Research by The Prince's Trust

Understanding the views of young people, and learning from them, is essential to The Prince's Trust.

This vital strand of our work helps us develop and refine solutions for disadvantaged young people. It has also made us a key commentator on issues affecting them. Investing in research is a major part of our work. Since 2001 we've published several ground-breaking studies:

  • Thousands of future nurses, teachers and plumbers could be lost if Britain fails to help unemployed young people into work.
  • Unemployed young people could face a lifetime of poorer health and lower happiness, warns a report published by The Prince's Trust.
  • This report raises profound concerns about entrenched inequalities, infrastructural under-resourcing and the systemic denial of children’s rights in Northern Ireland.
  • Thousands of Britain’s poorest youngsters will bear the brunt of the recession, warns a report published by The Prince’s Trust and ESRC Centre for Giving and Philanthropy, Cass Business School.
  • The latest annual review is now available.
  • The Prince’s Trust YouGov Youth Index investigates how young people feel about the state of their lives today and how confident they are about their future.
  • A lack of parent and adult role models is driving young people to turn to gangs and other peers for support, according to a report published by The Trust.
  • A jobless generation of young people costs the economy billions in lost productivity and crime.
  • The jobless generation of one million young people could face a lifetime of poor health and depression unless they are given more support to find work.
  • This report showed how England's most deprived districts have made lower relative progress in reducing the number of young people leaving school with no GCSEs.
  • This seminal study was The Trust's biggest-ever consultation with 14-25 year olds. The report is a comprehensive look at the perceived and real barriers they face, and where they turn for support.
  • This report interviewed more than 1,000 people across Britain on their understanding of the care system.
  • This report sheds much-needed light on a highly disenfranchised group in the UK: young refugees and asylum seekers.
  • This study looked at the attitudes and aspirations of young people who've been excluded from compulsory education, who have left care, or who are from ethnic minority backgrounds.
  • This study detailed how, despite the background of negative messages they're fighting, young people have positive attitudes and aspirations and want a place in society.
